Trying to remember a old Sega CD fighting game...

Postby outlawstar15a2 » Sat Jan 23, 2010 5:00 am

I remember this fighting game from my Sega CD days. It was a sci fi game and had a wide range of characters and one of the stages took place on a moon. I think one of the characters was a robot similar to the one you fight at the end of SoR3 though I'm sure it was a coincidence. Anyway I am trying to remember this game so I can download the rom. I know it's a lot with little info but if anyone could help I'd gladly appreciate it.

You can always check with the guys at sega-16.

I think the game you may be thinking of is cosmic carnage on the sega 32X. The only fighter I can think of on CD is eternal champions and the terrible version of mortal kombat.

The only one I can think of is Eternal Champions. There was a character called R.A.X who was a cyborg whose form of fighting was kickboxing. There was a stage and it looked like it was on Mars (Maybe that's what your thinking of) and it was the stage for Blade. There was a version for the Megadrive/Genesis and a version for Mega CD\Sega CD. Check it out on the net.

He's going by really old memories. Maybe he thinks it's a robot but he could be thinking of R.A.X. It's just that he mentioned 1 robot and R.A.X sort of looks like a robot so he could be talking about Eternal Champions. Haha I don't know. I'm just throwing out suggestions

Heavy Nova is a good fighting game, I played a lot!

I loved Eternal Champions Challenge From the Dark Side so much that I bought it and ripped the Redbook at 320 KBPS.

The characters and fatalities are pretty awesome, but the controls aren't smooth. I remember the game feeling sluggish in comparison to Street Fighter. Anyhow, what's the Redbook?

The external Music MP3's that are with the ISO if you download the game off of a rom site. On the disc, The music can be listened to on a CD Player. The music starts at track 2 because track 1 is the game's rom data. Both Sega CD, and Sega Saturn do this. Some PC games also do this as well.

On the subject of ECCD, I know how to make the Eternal transform when you play as him in Duel mode. Rotate the D-Pad forward and press any button. Its somewhat difficult to pull off on an emulator unless you are using a gamepad. Its still pretty hard on actual hardware. You can also press more than one button to transform which at least one of both versions' forms require.

To use attacks in any of his forms, Press A+B+C or X+Y+Z. both combinations are the same for each form. Also it is the same if you attempt to play as him in the original Genesis/Mega Drive game as I demonstrate:

You need a Game Genie or PAR code to do this. I have the GG codes listed in the video's description.

I loved Eternal Champions: CftDS and got the soundtrack ripped, too.

Sega of Japan supposedly demanded all work on a Saturn sequel be canceled (mostly conceptual at the time) because they didn't want another fighter to compete with AM2's Virtua Fighter. Then Sega goes on to make games like The Last Bronx, Golden Axe: The Duel and, oh yeah, Fighting Vipers, another fighting game by AM2. Not to mention they secured (i.e. paid for) two exclusive, upgraded Toshindens, a 3rd party fighter.

Also I think Blade's stage is actually supposed to be Syria, at least that's where I recall he originates. I don't think R.A.X.'s origin or stage location was ever specified though. He always reminded me of Ivan Drago (Rocky IV), so I just imagined him as Siberian.

Another possible match:

Black Hole Assault:

Looks like a sequel to Heavy Nova, all robots. There is a moon stage and I suppose one of the characters may look like Robot Y/Neo X.
