BOR playing problem

Postby GortDroog » Mon May 01, 2006 4:00 pm

After playing Rage of the Streets I wanted to play more BOR games. I went to borrevolution.vg-network.com and downloaded Rhythm of Destruction - Beats of Rage Remix 2 and pakexplode. But I don't understand how I can play it! I know this sounds stupid. I've looked everywhere on that site even in the forums, but I still don't unerstand how to play that game.
Can someone please help me. Tanks

First of all, you don't need paxplode. It's only needed if you want to edit things in the game (like lives, graphics, sounds, musics, new characters, etc.)

I assume that what you have downloaded is the BOR.PAK only ?

If so, download the latest version of OpenBOR at http://www.openbor.net/ , then all you have to do when unzipped is pasting BOR.PAK inside the folder where OPENBOR.EXE is and run it like you did for ROTS.

Hope that helps.

I downloaded the BOR and it's a RAR file. When I unRAR it using WinRar it is a .cdi file and not a .pak file. So it doesn't work. Can someone help me again?

Mount the image file in a virtual unit (Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools).
And extract the file BOR.PAK, then put it in the same folder as the Openbor program.
If you are using Windows XP get the windows version of Openbor ported by kirby2000.

.cdi is because it's a CD image file. So alternately, you can actually burn the image file on a CD (using a program like Alcohol 120%) and put it in the CD drive of your PC (if you don't want to create a virtual drive like Omegasis suggested).

Christuserloeser also made a quick tutorial on how to burn a .cdi file with BootDreams : http://borrevolution.vg-network.com/for ... .php?t=117

As for playing OpenBOR mods correctly with Windows XP, either use Kirby2000's Windows port (as mentioned by Omegasis), but I warn you it's still buggy, or use VDMSound as described in this thread : http://bombergames.net/sorr/forum/viewt ... c&start=10

Another problem..
I was trying to put some other cgaracters into the original Beats of Rage. I'd already put Guile in and I was trying to put Haggar from Final Fight Apocalypse in.
After I used paxplode on FF apocalypse and ripped Haggar and put him in the chars directory of BOR etcetera, I tried to play the game and in the game Haggar is fine, but his colors gets f*cked up.
How can I make Haggar look fine in Beats of Rage?

That happens because both games use differents pallets of colors.
You need to convert the character Haggar to the same BOR pallet.
Replace the first 128 colors of every Haggar's frame with the 128 colors of BOR.

That can be really ease to do with some programs like Animation Shop 3.

That's it :D Open each sprite frame with Photoshop. If the frames are already in indexed colors, change to RGB, then change back to indexed colors, then "force" the color palette to the mods' palette (pal.act) and save the frames as GIFs.

You can even automate this process (batch convert) for all frames with Photoshop
