What I like from Rudra's back attack it's her range... and I use it pretty often, I like it.

I thinik they are useful, good to mix up abit and add variety to combos (especially for Max.) Zan's however I find terrible animation-wise.

I will say however that Adam's is (intentionally) horrible.

If one thing shouldn't have been taken directly from SOR1, it was Adam's back attack, lol. It looks so terrible.

I myself find back attacks incredibly useful. When you're in the middle of a beat down by enemies you use your special to bust out, but when you see those backstabbers coming up on you, you can time it to bust them and save your special, or health depending on which meter option you use. And it makes a good method to mix up combos.

SOR2 Blaze especially has an incredibly good back attack. I dare say it's broke and abusable, since it will also knock down people right in front of you. It's almost like a free special attack.

^ this, though Blaze2's back attack isn't entirely abuse material, some frames leave you open for attack if you don't time it right. would've been nice if Blaze3 had this. I enjoy Blaze1's back attack, has a lot of oomph to it.

Adam's back attack is terrible I'd like to reiterate. :P

Adam's Back Attack lasts long enough and does enough damage to make it useful as a way to knock down enemies. Don't use it with the intent to hit immediately... it needs proper timing from what I remember.

Approaching enemies or enemies who are getting back up but you don't have the luxury to regrab are the main targets. Still... it's only rarely useful, but I've given it atleast some use here and there like this.

Round 4 is harder than Round 1 for Blaze, and I did it, too!!!

SoR3 as close as possible as to how it should've been: Complete Edition

I just started playing adam few weeks ago (because of golden rage trilogy and adam story extended) and I find is back attack not great, but can be useful.

1/ it has a huge hit detect and great range so you can use it to catch incoming low tiers mook. Weirdly, they will not try to get away from it and just rush into it if they have already started their rush (tested on very hard, don't know on mania)

2/ the attack itself is slow, but adam is technically jumping quite soon; so you can use it to evade slide from signal 1,2 & 3. As the hit detect is huge, your move will be still active when signal slide will lose invincibility frame

3/ it's easy to time in meaty. Just good to know.

To conclude that back attack is pretty bad because of it recovery which is not good (i use remake pause delay) but if you're not overwhelmed it can be use for the damage and properties.
Max pause delay SoR3: a.k.a"The Trash Compactor" => Mania killer mode.

pretty good run down of his attack, though I never said it was useless just terrible. :P does sound like it needs timing to use, which isn't too different from using it in SoR1, I just like to use back attacks as a quick crowd control tactic especially when normal punks want to surround you and pummel you back and forth. Adam's back attack isn't the best one to use in that case.

I don't think Blaze2 is broken, it needs to be very close to hit forward (dangerous to count on it). And thinking about the motion she does, it makes sense. I wish Blaze3 had it also.

Thinking back on my claim, yeah, Blaze2's back attack probably couldn't be considered broken. But it is really helpful in a sorta cheap way sometimes. So many times when I'm playing SOR2 or SORR with Blaze2, I'm pummeling guys in front of me with a combo, some guy sneaks up behind me, so I use a back attack instead of the last combo kick. Cue all enemies hitting the pavement.

I think I've only ever used back-attacks a handful of times, and those were accidents.
