Grin Barcelona set upon a remake of Streets of Rage, to be published by Sega. It was intended to be similar to Grin’s own Bionic Commando Rearmed, and released as a download-only title. Work on this game didn’t last long, however. Only a handful of screenshots and art, below, were unearthed, but apparently a build of the game exists somewhere.

Expect to see this info added to Streets of Rage dot net with the next update

Just stumbled upon these on the SEGA forum and was about to post them but alas, I'm late to the party.

Very interesting if you ask me, this looks more like a SOR1 remake.
Can't say I really like the streets graphics though, looks like something made with Little Big Planet assets, only a bit more detailed.
However it's good they were at least going to respect the original characters designs.

But yeah, if they were to make a 3D remake of any SOR game, I'd expect much much nicer graphics than that. It's possible, even for a downloadable game.

Bomberlink's Thoughts in the week of Rage Interview--

Dave: If Sega do ever make a sequel, how important is it to keep the game in 2D? Can a game as perfectly tuned as Streets of Rage 2 work in the third-person?
Bomberlink: Yes, they could keep the gamemplay intact, purely adapting the game to 3D using a horizontal panning camera. The problem comes when they want free camera movement and 360º rotating characters, which adds a new element of imprecision and some dependence when playing a 2 players game, so they end playing nothing like the 2D classics.

A Streets of Rage 1 remake done in 2D high definition graphics with original music from Yuzo Koshiro would be magnificient.

I think the game looks very poor. It reminds me of the Turtles in Time Re-Shelled game, which is nowhere near as good as the original. If they had gone for a 2.5D sprite based look like in Guardian Heroes, perhaps I would have been more interested.

I have to agree with charco on this. While I do like the building designs and would like to see more of this, as of now it looks dull. It looked lifeless from the screenshots.

Wow, well it looks a hell of a lot better than the other SoR4 concept.

Though I agree it's not as bright and beautiful as it could be, I'm honestly fine with the char modeling style. Too bad this was canceled, Grin did an awesome job with BCR (which imo is far better than the original BC), I'm sure this would have turned out interesting in the very least.

Look call it SOR4 all you want, its just SOR1 in 3D. Made by nobodies (their game track record? poor), and published by Nu-Sega. No thanks.

if this game have been better worked and finished he could have been a great game, anyway maybe this can be a sign that they might want to revive the franchise.
