Streets of Rage 2 Remake - Demo (Stages 1~4) [Please Lock]

Postby CajNatalie » Tue Oct 04, 2011 3:17 am

Release Thread: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2700&p=113606#p113606

I need to own the first post of the thread (please lock the other one).

Anyway, so I couldn't help myself but move on to the next one... my real goal is the third game; my favorite, but eh I'm a little obsessive compulsive sometimes.

Download Demo: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0VIT8QSE
MediaFire: http://www.mediafire.com/?jou119uc8pbld55
Also includes a resource pack for the stages included so you can reproduce them in your own mods.
Alternate music also included.
Note: The extra stuff will be split in the final release, like I did with the first game.

Anyway, some videos.
Note that enemy scaling has changed for the first two stages since recording.

Hakuyo (actually supposed to be Ko-Shu) at the end of Stage 4-1 has been fixed since release.
Apologies for letting him slip by. o.o
Big-Go, Sug.Q, and Nora, have been moved from 2P Only to Mania Only.

Update: Here's the, hopefully, final time I rescale everyone. 1P Mania is here...

...anyone lolmissing is in 2P Only, of course.

Scaling
All enemy data is taken from observation of a 2P Mania run, ensuring I get names, HP, palettes, positions, and poses.
However, 1P and lower difficulties are not exact matches.
I can only guarantee that 2P Mania will be a closest-to-exact match with the original.

I'm not going to do multiple copies of every enemy with multiple levels of HP for each difficulty and blehhhh.

Something is wrong? In the original game Mania difficulty, there should be 2 Electra's and 2 Big-Ben's in stage 4 part 2, this is different from the content of your video.

Good job! I'm looking forward to playing the completed version! :D

Mistake Report
Name and colour of the "HAKUYO" at the last of Stage 4, Scene 1 are wrong.
His correct name is "KO-SHU" and his correct colour is "Default".

What I noticed on the bridge (shortly before Jet) is that, when enemies are thrown and they land, the lights in the background don't sway. This appears to be one of the more cryptic SORMaker features, but it is possible to make the lights sway in response to the chaos (like the ceiling chains in the BK3 warehouse stage).

I don't think the lights entirely have to be in their own layer, but the layer they are in have to have the animation of them swaying. Then, in that layer's properties, the two icons that make it happen are the icons at the bottom-right...one with an explosion over a building, and another with a fault line running through it.

The one with the explosion makes the lights sway if an explosion goes off. The fault line option makes the lights sway if someone falls from getting thrown. And, obviously, having both of these turned on makes the lights sway if either happens. So, you can use these options to add to the feel of certain stages.

I was just using a 2P Mania game and doing my own scaling for difficulty and players.
Anyone who appears to be missing is in 2P mode.
I'll adjust my scaling method so Big-Go will show up in Stage 4-2 on 1P as well, though.
...also, I'm gonna treat Electras like bosses/sub-bosses, too, since she's a sub-boss in the bar. So Sug.Q will also be moved from 2P mode.
There's also a whip in one of the Dreamer streets I need to move, too.

I'm not trying to do a perfect match of scaling. Want me to play the game for each difficulty and for 1P and 2P?
Because I sure don't want to do that, lol. One data gathering run per stage is enough, especially on Stage 2-1.

I need to a similar note to the one I added to the first one about scaling.

Damn, how'd I end up doing that wrong?
Must'a clicked his palette by accident while forgetting to check the name/color.
That's really not supposed to happen. Maybe I'm working too fast?

So THAT'S what those things do? o.o
Thank you for helping me finally know. They've made no sense to me for ages. :3

But wait... the lights are already using animation frames to do their flashy thing. =(

Oh, I know gathering data is not a fun work for people. I asked just because I think there's something wrong.

In 1P mode there're 2 Electra's and 2 Big-Ben's in stage 4-2, and I think 2P mode should always has the same or more enemies than 1P mode. So I just checked the original game.

This is Streets of Rage 2 mania mode. I think the possibility is you selected the wrong difficulty or something else.

I'll put it on MediaFire when I reupload the re-scaled version... also with a fix to move a Y Signal that ended up in a wall for some reason. o.O
Edit: Charco got in first, lol. But I'll be doing a re-upload anyway if it's really necessary.

Lol, 'selected the wrong difficulty or something', lol.

Read what I said again, please.

I'm using a 2P Mania run to get data.
Therefore EVERYONE is in there.
Sug Q is in.
Big-Go is in.
I set them to 2P ONLY in the SoRMaker during my rush scaling.
The demo was with 1P, so anyone I set to 2P won't be there. Obviously.

Besides, I said I'd altered my scaling methods so sub-bosses would skip the 2P rule I'm using anyway and get scaled from Mania down like bosses.

I only guarantee 2P Mania to be a closest-possible-to-exact match.

Yes, I'm in an awkward mood right now. I apologise if the way I'm posting is a problem.

Update:
Wrong difficulty indeed...

Weird HP bars on Blaze & Skate because I have invincibility codes activated.
If you die, anyone who's in standing pose falls over and runs on screen... which means I won't see where they were standing.

Update: 1p/2p scaling method changed for the third and hopefully final time.

I just wanna get this done and do the third game, lol.
I have so many ideas for it... *w*

If there's enough want for it, I can reupload the demo, but eh... I should really hold off until the final release.
I overreleased the first game so I'm trying to go the other way with this one.

Well, been living under the mercy of a fucking proxy program that tends to be broken out of fucking nowhere and living in a place with 3/4 of the world wide web cockblocked by political paranoia of a pseudo-commie-pinko-totalitarian-capitalist government of a country I'm living, well... that calls for all sources possible to enjoy my hobbies the best I could.

Anyways, on subject, so far these for first stages look real good and have a nice vibe. Haven't found any tidbits more than the ones shown above so means it's going in the right direction.

Sorry for that, it's just because I did not read the SoR1 mod thread. And thanks for your rescaling.

It's all right... I wasn't entirely comfortable with my scaling at the time anyway.

In fact I just did another rescale... much more minor.
Any enemy that doesn't drop down or walk in from the side is forbidden from 2P only now.
Ninjas doing their 'hang' thing count as enemies who drop down so there are still two of them in 2P mode in Stage 3. >_________>

So now a couple of crouching enemies who were in 2P have been switched in... while a couple of enemies who walk in from the sides have been put in 2P Only... pretty much... XD
2P mode now pretty much defines whether you get even more enemies swarming you from off screen or not.
