The project files are gone so it wouldn't be possible to return to Poets I, but a completed version would have honestly been almost identical to the V5 one - it is just the main riff as heard at the start of the track that lacked the extra layer to sound more 'fleshed out'. All the other parts - drums, bass, B-section guitar, brass etc - sound exactly the same as planned, no change. So it was not too great a loss - as I said, it did impact slightly on the accuracy of that section, but all other parts were fully intact.
There were a lot of other, more serious omissions in comparison, really: other tracks did receive genuinely drastic changes from the original versions - the two main Boss musics being the most well known examples by now, due to the file mix-ups. But by far the worst Beta (which thankfully was removed) was the rough draft of Slow Moon - it was frankly shite. If I had not supplied a better version, it would've stayed in V5 (there was no other version at the time); I didn't want that rubbish to be kept in, and knew I had to come up with something proper. Luckily I had the spark of an idea, for the 'Ace Of Base' Slow Moon as it has become known, which IMO ended up being one of the strongest tracks of all.
I'd say, my best finished track that didn't make it into V5...was my 'Dilapidated Town'. Included all parts from the original with a sound and style that I was really satisfied with. I don't know exactly why it was omitted because I made my case for the update at the time (and others seemed to really like it), but it was literally sent a day before the release and it may have been another casualty of the files not being updated in time. I feel it was more worthy of inclusion than some of my other tracks; I'd have been happier if say, Spin On The Bridge was kept as Gecko's excellent V4 mix, if that meant my Dilapidated Town could've made the cut instead, for example. But there you go...
