Postby BoMbErLiNk » Fri May 11, 2007 10:15 pm

A standalone tool pack to be released with V5 (3 exes), click & play alike with drag & drop system.

Old pic of the editor (320x240) :

(No pics from the new one will be shared)

- Build a new game using SORR :
Build Sor1 is possible, some little details could be missing.
Build Sor2 is fully possible, in every single detail.
Build Bk3 is partially possible.

Keep in mind is a click & play tool, you cant do miracles, but learning from the limits many missing things could be possible.

0. Cutscene viewer
Is a separate EXE whose function will be playing any cutscene you create as we’ll see it in the game. It works through script in a TXT file, although it has no commands but follows a very simple schema:

data\drdahm.png (pathname of the picture file, it might end accepting animated images using FPGs)
0 (comment number to show alongside the image, with 0 meaning no comment)
60 (time the image will be shown expressed in frames, so if the game runs at 60fps this example would be shown during one second)
data\00.ogg (pathname of the audio file that will be played)
0 (number of times the audio file will be played, with -1 meaning infinite loop)
I knew something strange was
going on! (comment, 30 characters per line, 2 mandatory lines per comment. You can type a blank line into a comment.)
1 (flag that tells the program to jump to the next comment if it’s a 1, or to end the cutscene if it’s a 0)
175 (time the comment will be shown expressed in frames)
939 (FPG file graphic number. The portrait for the comment)

Outcome of the above script:

1. Stage design
- Stages are build into a FPG file in a single map, no tiles anymore.
- Any size for the main layer is possible.
- Map collisions are possible.
- Up to 9 extra layers, can be animated.
- Possibility of choosing properties, filter effects, speed, events over them, etc..

2. Stage placement
- All V5 enemies available
- All V5 items available
- All V5 objects available
- Multiple events from SORR available (not everything)

3. Game
- Custom logo, main screen, select screen and endings are possible
- Mods can be linked, finish one start another

This is an awesome idea, it reminds me of the T2002 level editor and how it allowed the Turrican fanbase to create their own stages. Some of these were extremely complex and inspired, and one even became a standalone game (T4 Funeral). I can't wait to see what the fan community can come up with for SORR, to be sure there will be a lot of crappy ideas, but there are bound to be some bonafide gems, too.
