No had to swap to a replacement PS3. Lost my saves and such. Not fun.

And NO you cannot swap saves from one PS3 to another. You can backup to an external drive, but it will only work on the PS3 the saves came from.

This sounds sooooo fucked. I'm actually really scared for my PS3 now.

Yeah, that sounds mega shite. Here's hoping i never have to go through that also.

Mate of mine just had his 360 do the "red dance"...I hope fate doesn't come back to bite me in the ass on how much i rubbed it in about having a 'Reliable console'
The box said "Requires Windows 95 or better." I can't understand why it won't work on my Linux computer.

Guys, I have a 80gb PS3 for about 3 years now and it hasn't failed me so far.
Just make sure to put your PS3 in a place that is unconfined enough and you should be ok.

Exactly. Mine was originally made in 07 I believe, and lasted til Sept 2011. Thats a hell of a long time for a modern console. For mine I had a few problems that were NOT common (basically the insides got to a unusually superheated point, that the RSX chip failed). Normally, from wha the shop told me, its quite easy for them to fix YLOD, and woulda given mine back had the RSX chip not failed as well.

The shop I went too was helpful though, gave me a replacement model, EXACT same 80gb as my original, even kept the top casing from my original, which apparently was a custom one. The only downside to the whole thing was save loss.

Again!?

That's fucked up man. I just recently lost my save for T5:DR, and I was pretty disheartened from that. I couldn't imagine losing all of my saves, let alone twice.

What on earth are you doing to your PS3? I hope it's not expensive to remedy.

Yeah I had the same problem with my old laptop at my parents place. Air conditioning was limited to one room and the rest of the house was like living in an oven. That whole ordeal caused me to get a new laptop.

Anyway good luck man, hopefully we'll be able to get some matches in when TTT2 drops.

Backing up your saves regularly is an advice that still applies ;)
Don't use the save option in the PS3 system menu, the save created will only work on your PS3, it's better to copy manually each save (which can be used with every PS3 as long as you're logged in with your PSN account).

*sigh*

Anyone experience this? Any fixes you know of? I'm gonna try again soon when I get home (at work atm) and maybe try the hold-eject-Power-on-fan=test method that seems to be working for a few on Youtube.

I am a sad panda.

What model is it, because the early ones the fat ones with the 40, 60, 80 gig harddrives were more prone to breaking down the newer slimline ones. But the yellow light of death is usualy one of four things either a harddrive fault, very dusty inside the ps3 the components are heating up too much, thermal paste is warn out and needs replacing, or a power surge has has gone through it. If it is any of the three earlier one it could be fixed, but if it is the last one it is forgive the pun game over you will have to get a new one. This link may of some help to you too dude good luck.

Figured I'd post this here, as it seems you CAN Transfer a backup from one Ps3 to another these days, with the only acception being Copy-Protected Saves.

Now apparently, if you ake a new PS3, rename it the same as your old one, and create the account on it that the saves belong to (name + PSN login), when you do the backup the copy-protected transfer as well. UNCONFIRMED though.
