why GIVE you an emulator when they can SELL you games you ALREADY OWN individually, using said emulator?

Maybe because the PS3 owners don't feel like getting a PS2 but still could play PS2 games on it.
And it would also be better for Sony since they'd cash on PS2 games even more since there is a bigger chance PS3 owners would buy PS2 games in that case.

and where will you get these brand new games?

most game shops where I live don't stock new PS2 games, and the ones that do usually have more pre-owned games, which Sony doesn't make off.

as opposed to the "sell it on the PSN, where we get all the cash, and you can't get it 2nd hand" route.

I see your point but I still think sony earns more on retail then on PSN downloads and such things.

Negative, profit margins are higher on digital downloads by cutting out the middle man, shipping costs, packaging etc.

I think I remember Criss saying his friend was selling his? Maybe its one of the early models with backwards compatibility. Nice one. Now get Drake's Fortune and Among Thieves immediately.

It sure is not a Slim, because the PS2 compatibility and the card slots were on the first models only.

My thoughts exactly. I'd like to see an upgraded Slim sometime.

Protip: you won't.
Why? Sony has done nothing but strip the PS3 down to cut costs over the years. First it was the PS2 hardware integrated into the PS3's, card slots and two of the USB ports, then it was the hypervisor which allowed installing another OS (namely Linux). Every major price cut has involved selling less of a product than it previously was.

QFT, but I don't like it. I want a smaller, sleeker, energy efficient system with all the capibilities it should have... but yeah, your Protip speaks the truth.

Sure, you will get a somewhat smaller and substantially more energy efficient product, just not with everything it originally had.
