Top 5 Mods At The Moment.

Postby bazzza » Mon Dec 26, 2011 2:37 pm

Hello since there is now a more than a fair few mods out in the open for sorR I was wondering what are people's favorite with an explanation for each here is my 5 from least favorite to most favorite.

5. Hunter. A original idea using the hub system witch was a great idea plus the great detail of the levels is staggering, the choice of music is awesome too and each section has an awesome storyline to it with it being fairly adult

4. Rage in time. Combining seemlesly my two favorite games series of the 16 bit era and creating a mod of just great fun with a awesome comic book feel.

3. At the Movies. This is just not only well put together it is also original in that you dont just go after Mr X but the team are creating a movie using famous computer games. This mod also got great music but every scene you play feels like it is from the game taken from but still feels like streets of rage .

2. The Way of the Warrior. This is without doubt the most ambious mod ever, the detail and time and effort spent in creating this mod is staggering. It has a great storyline all charaters being used well. The graphics have a great amount of detail to them with a lot going on in the background. Music is brilliant particuly the one used in the chinatown area and the clever use of sound in the train station in the way of annoucements. Enemy placement was near perfect and diffulculty very well pitched and it had some good unlockables.

1. La Calles De La Rabia. This is my number one and I think it will stay that way for a while just because of the original approch to a mod by the creater making his own levels using paint with must have take a monumental ammount of time and effort to do. The mod has also a great sense of humour through out by the little detailing of the backgrounds like the wanted poster of Axel. The music just fantastic with a scotty pilgrim theme running through it and not just using the standard SOR music or the remixes. The gameplay is just great, awesome fun and well pitched diffilculty and just about perfect enemy placement and great multiple routes I have played this mod loads and will still play it loads just such a good mod. This mod technacliy may not be quiet as good as way of the warrior but too me there is just that bit more charm to it.

Well there are my top let me know what yours are. :D  8)

Awwww I feel so honored by it, thanks heaps. :)

But...

...don't you think this topic should go to the SORmaker sub-forum? Maybe a mod can move it. :P

This is my top 5 sormaker mods at the moment:

1: Way of the Warrior, Hunter and Adam's Story extended: both are great mods and have great stories, stages and great extras. 8)

2: V4 Remake and Rudra's Story: SORR V4 in the SORR V5 engine is like a wish come true, i really liked of this mod and Rudra's Story was very intresting to me :P

3: Sonic mod: this mod meets Sonic and SOR, two of my favorite sega games series, i hope the final version comes out soon XD

4: SOR 3 mod, Adam's Story mini mod and Final Rage: Surprisingly i like the SOR 3 mod more than the SOR 3 original, its very creative and makes great use of the sormaker tolls even with this limitations and the Adam's Story [ mini-mod ] was wery interesting and cretive. :D

Final Rage are a great mod too, the original Final Fight was great and the Final Rage mod is a great tribute to original Final Fight. 8)

Also credits to SOR 1 and 2 mods too, they are very loyal to the original versions, even with some limitations.

5: SOR: Syndicate Story: This was one of the first sormaker mods, has some negative points but it's still great to play, have good stages [ stage 1-1, underwater base and syndicate HQ ] and great OST. [ MMPR, Adventures of Batman & Robin rules! XD ]

Nah, I don't think there would be any problem. Unfortunately, I'm only local mod for the SORmaker sub-forum so I can't move it there.

As for my personal list of top 5, I guess I'll divide into my top 3 of two categories: Remakes from other titles and Original mods. Let's go:

Remakes/Homages:

3) SORRv4 for v5/Rudra's Story by Charco. Definitely a dream come true. Rudra's Story was a great add on that put together some stages from v4 that never made it on v5.

2) SOR1 for v5 by CajNatalie. The remake of all of them in the v5 engine was also what several people was looking for. But SOR1 it's still my all time favie SOR game, so... yeah, that takes my heart.

1) Final Rage by DeusX87. As a Final Fight and Streets of Rage fan, this was the perfect remake ever. Perfect enemy positioning faithful to the original, faithful enemy names/palettes. As fun as the original Capcom game. I loved it with all my soul!

Shoutouts to SOR IV: Turtles in Time and the SOR2/3 for v5. Love those definitely.

Original:

3) The Rise of the Black Dragon by LucasHB. After the experience he gained from Manhunt, he pulled out a more polished and well designed mod. A personal favie.

2) Las Calles de la Rabia Director's Cut by Klares. The latest update from the classic paint made mod hit a homerun with new stages and balance. Great enemy balance and awesome stages.

1) Rise of Luc---... oh... sorry, wrong... Image

1) Way of the Warrior by TheNomad. I'll never be tired of how awesome was the production of this baby and how complete it was, how well designed are the stages, the storyline, the unlockables, the replay value. It's still my all time favie mod so far.

BIG shoutouts for Gangs of Fury (some of the best stage designs ever), At The Movies ( super long but fun mod that I also like a lot) and Manhunt that also was an old personal favorite.

1. Way of the Warrior
2. SORR 4 remake
3. SOR1/SOR2/SOR3 remakes
4. Hunter
5. Le retour de Mr.X

I confess I'm a bit biased, having helped with the text in Nomad's Way Of The Warrior, but I guess I wouldn't have done that in the first place if it hadn't kept me in such awe. Ranks 2-4: These are all so great that they could just as well all share the same rank. Hunter was maybe a bit too difficult for little old me in the final stage, so probably that's the only reason it is coming in fourth here in my list. Fifth place goes to the mod that used the backgrounds from the "Rushing Beat" series so nicely. Too bad it didn't have different paths combining all three "Rushing Beat" installments into one mod.

Keeping in mind I haven't played all of the mods yet (so many ps3 games + real life stuff keeping me busy). I'm gonna do a temporary list until I play H.U.N.T.E.R. and Caj's remakes  I'm sure they'll both make it into my top 5. Unfortunately most of the mods I've played were demos or beta's

4. Sonic by Crystalix
Awesome mod, faithful to the genesis games, though a bit unforgiving with the pits.

3. V4 Remake by Charco
A lot of care put into this as well, great to have v4 slightly upgraded. v4's release date was around a great time in my life, always good to be taken back to it.

2. SoR at the Movies by Benny26
Honestly I couldn't possibly leave this one out with the epic translation of the Warriors to SoR. A very original mod that has a boatload of cool references.

1. Le Retour de Mr. X by robertobernardo
Yeah, it's a pretty simple story and a very straightforward mod, but that's part of what makes it awesome. Sometimes I just want to playthrough something once and know all of the ins and outs, but the major replay factor here was the difficulty, at least in the original version. It was perfect for my skill level, punishing for mistakes and taking lives but never a continue. But the best thing about the mod is the graphic editing to the stages and cutscenes. This guy did an awesome job porting over stages and I had a blast playing it. Everything looked right. Only gripe here is that he was a little too safe with the soundtrack. Other than that it's perfect imo.

It's hard to decide, many mods are my like, but they always have different points to be played. Some mods are perfect but they drag too long, so I will probably won't play them very often.

THIS (as in me too). Thanks Bazzza :D

I'll also split mine into Originals and Remakes:

Originals

1) Way Of The Warrior - A somewhat early mod that just does the biz over and over. Great story, endings, and just great gameplay.

2) H.U.N.T.E.R - Pretty much same as above except the release date. It shows off the hub setup perfectly.

3) Gangs Of Fury - Gangs and SoR go hand in hand. Some great stages in this little gem.

Remakes

1) SoRR V4 for V5 - This is just an amazing mod, even the demo was top-notch. Not only is it V4 to a T, but it also uses V5's perks to perfection. Love this one.

2) SoR1 For V5 - I love SoR 1, so when this came along i was pretty pumped up. You just can't beat them old original tunes and stages on an updated engine.

3) Sonic Mod - One of the biggest and most hard worked on the forum is this one. Almost every Sonic level (in every original Sonic game) with a cool subtle storyline...amazing.
The box said "Requires Windows 95 or better." I can't understand why it won't work on my Linux computer.

I'm only listing 4, because the 5th position is really disputed.

4) Way of the Warrior. Several paths, lots of different scenarios, and extras!

3) SoR Megamix. Wonderful sense of humour, plus very long mod with a lot of paths.

2) Las Calles de la Rabia. Again, GREAT sense of humour (you lose some bits if you're not from Spain, I guess), very funny artwork that works surprisingly well despite having a different style. The police car intro at one point is the only thing that prevents it from getting #1.

1) Adam's Story Extended. Several VERY detailed paths, lots of homages (including the rooms in stage 3), and some really well designed "twisted-nostalgia" level (my favourite ones: SOR1 Stage 8's new floor and Barbon's Bar). I can say that this mod is simply flawless.

Competitors for the 5th place:
- H.U.N.T.E.R.. Loses points for the several parts where a lot of dialogue appears exactly at the same time than enemies you have to fight, which becomes annoying. Otherwise, it would probably have got to the 3rd or 4th position.

- Golden Rage. I admit that I haven't fully played this one (i.e.: through every route on the map), so my opinion could improve. Adding custom sounds was a great idea. Anyway, from the "versioning old games" trend, it's probably the most fitting, even more than Final Rage.

- At the Movies. Loses a LOT of points because of the pits everywhere. Could have climbed to the 2nd place if not for those.

Someone who approves of the twisted SoR1 HQ, and can openly admit it.
Sir, you have won the internet.

I've been waiting to see someone with the balls to speak up (and positively) about the place.

P.S. Also, I never gave internets to Largamon for openly admitting it was awkward. I only didn't offer him respect for his openness because I was dealing with upload/re-upload hassles.
So yush, belated internets for Largamon, too.

I like it because it reflects very well the sordidness and vice I would imagine in an actual mafia hideout. It may seem a little out of place considering the innocent and clean scenarios of the original games (they were designed for children and young people, after all), but hey, most of us are adults now.
